Exercise aims:

  • Trills with gruppi! We do them all the time and yet if you’re like me you might not remember to practise them that often. This exercise should improve both the co-ordination between your hands and your trilling.
  • Play the exercise using thumb and finger in the right hand.
  • The trick with this exercise is to do it slowly, impressive speed comes with a solid technique; to perfect your technique you must allow your muscles and brain the time to learn the motions.
  • At the point your hands begin to feel tired, take a break – this is important when you are working on a specific part of your technique as your hands (and brain) don’t get the respite that comes naturally with playing complete pieces.
